Faculty of Engineering Universitas Brawijaya (FT-UB) get a visit from Al-Irsyad Surabaya on Thursday (12/11). This group is consist of 49 twelfth grader from sciethird grades students along with their 10 teachers and vice principal of students affair, Syaiful Malik S.Pd,. Upon arrival they were greeted by the Vice Dean for Student Affairs Dr. Slamet Wahyudi ST., MT., and Head of Sub Division of Academic Administration Syaifuddin, SE., in the Hall of Prof. Ir. Suryono 2nd floor of the Dean Building of FTUB.

According to Syaiful Malik, this time their visit to FT-UB is for hospitality and campus study for the last year students who want to continue their study at a higher level. Welcoming the guests, Dr. Slamet Wahyudi ST., MT briefly presented the existing faculties at the University of Brawijaya and the majors in the FT-UB and its achievements. Furthermore, he also explain about the type of student admission that can be take by the students include the National Selection of Higher Education (SNMPTN) Invitation, Write, and independent ways. In fact, students can also join UB through non-academic achievement. “At least it must be the first place for Province level, and doen to third place for National competition and must be evidenced by a certificate issued by an official agency,” he said.

Dr. Slamet Wahyudi ST., MT also explained that around a thousand student join UB through the Bidik Misi program.  Bidik Misi program is a scholarship program aimed at needed students who has excellent achievements. “In the Faculty of Engineering alone there are for about 100 students who join through Bidik Misi Program,” he said.

In a QA session, one student asked about the possibility for Social Science students to enter the engineering faculty. Dr Slamet Wahyudi ST., MT who answered the questions mentions that Faculty of Engineering open opportunities for a non-science majors students to get into FT-UB. “Nowadays there is no difference, Social Science students can study Natural Science program and vice versa. They must go through a selection process in advance.” he concluded. (mic)
