2The team of AT-B (Aero Techno Boat) from Faculty of Engineering Universitas Brawijaya (FTUB) managed to gain achievement at Bangkok International Intellectual Property, Invention, Innovation and Technology Exposition (IPITEX) 2018. The team succeeded in bringing home the Bronze Medal and Genius Award from Singapore with innovation in the field of sustainable energy.

Led by Yusril Fatahilmi (Electrical Engineering 2016), Ubaid Ikbar Najib Nur Fauzi (Electrical Engineering 2016), Elok Paikoh (Agriculture 2015), and Vita Lutfiah (Vokasi 2016), all teams depart to Bangkok for a presentation (2-6/Feb/2018). Under the guidance of Eka Maulana, S.T., M.T. M. Eng, Team AT-B competes with 500 other teams. They are high school students, college students, lecturers, researchers, and general innovators from 20 countries across the continent. Among others; Indonesia, Malaysia, Arab Emirates Union, Poland, Korea, Philippines, Taiwan, and others.

1Regarding the innovations offered, the team focuses on the use of diesel fuel that is relatively expensive among fishermen. The fishermen usually require approximately 60 liters of diesel fuel for one sailing. When they sail 3 times a week, they will require a fairly expensive cost for about Rp1.650.000,00 per week, in addition to the use of diesel fuel, it also has an impact on the addition of the number of carbon emissions in the atmosphere of 4,2 tons per 60 liters of diesel fuel. Therefore, the AT-B team utilizes hybrid technology using Ocean Wave Convertion combined with flywheel system and Aero Power Plant to convert wave energy to seawater and wind power.

Asked about future plans for the development of Aero Techno Boat, Yusril Fatahilmi expressed his hope to develop this research.

“We of the AT-B Team hope that Aero Techno Boat’s innovation can be developed continuously as a substitute for energy from diesel fuel that is not environmentally friendly into environmentally friendly hybrid technology derived from natural energy and we hope can be implemented directly to the fishermen especially in Indonesia,” he said.

4The AT-B team also expressed their gratitude to Dr. Eng. Denny Widhiyanuriyawan, ST., MT., as Vice Dean for Students Affairs of FTUB, Ir. Hadi Suyono S.T., M.T., Ph.D. as the Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Eka Maulana, ST., MT., M.Eng., who provided support and motivation to the AT-B team to continue growing.
