PKMPEBased on the oil world database in 2015, Indonesia is the world’s largest palm oil producer with a contribution of 52.2%. With a vast plantation area of 10.9 million hectares (Dijenbun, 2014). The area of oil palm plantation produces 29.3 tons of CPO (Crude Palm Oil).

Crude palm oil is widely used as raw material for making some food products such as shortening, margarine, and cocoa butter replacer. Several studies said that powdered fat making has been done using spray cooling technology. The principle of this technology is the absorption and cooling of particles so that it can produce powder that is solid at room temperature.

Lifting the title of CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) Granulation of Palm Oil Usage to make Fat Powder Rich in β-Carotene Through Spray Cooling Process, three students of Mechanical Engineering Faculty of Engineering Universitas Brawijaya (FTUB) simulate the cooling technique.

NYAKSARAHGuided by Dr. Eng. Moch Agus Choiron, ST., MT., Ega Aprilia Sandy, Fitra Setiaji, and Dewi Mariya Ulfa vary the angle of attack from the blower on FEM (Finite Element Method) based software to see their respective CFD models.

NYAKSARAH2This simulation result will be able to show the most effective blower attack angle to produce palm oil granule. Specific data obtained lead to the starting height of the granule and the extent produced at a certain time.

“By recognizing the geometry of effective production tools, hopefully, the results of this research can be used in optimizing the process of powdered fat production in Indonesia,” Fitra, one of the team members hope.
