arsThe fifth series of Seminar Aristektur Nusantara by Architecture Department, Faculty of Engineering Universitas Brawijaya (FT-UB) successfully held, Thursday-Friday (7-8/Sep/2017). The annual seminar of the Department raised a theme of ‚ÄúNusantara as The Basic of Smart Culture for Prospering Built Environment”. In cooperation with TU Wien Austria, this time SAN is packed in International Conference as InSAN (International Conference on Sustainable Architecture in Nusantara).

Invited as keynote speaker include Prof. Erich Lehner (TU Wien, Austria) and Yori Antar (Architects). While the other speakers are Dr. Ulrike Herbig (TU Wien, Austria), Assoc. Prof. Riken Homma (Kumamoto University, Japan), Assoc. Prof. Mohd. Zin Kandar (Universiti Teknologi Malaysia), Agung Murti Nugroho, PhD (Universitas Brawijaya), and Dr. Susilo Kusdiwanggo (Universitas Brawijaya).

Open the event represent the FT-UB Dean was Vice Dean of Academic Affairs, Dr. Ir. Surjono, MTP. “It is expected that the results of this conference can be formulated into the real contribution of FTUB and all participants for government, practitioners, academics, and perpetrators of architecture widely, especially in Indonesia. Explore all local wisdom so it can be felt for the benefit of the wider community,” he said.

InSAN 2017 invites academics and practitioners of Architecture to formulate local wisdom as a reference for the development of sustainable tropical architecture in the future. In addition to keynote speaker sessions, InSAN also opened a call of paper for researchers in the field of Architecture.

What’s so special about this event is that the submitted and selected papers will be published in the IVA-ICRA Proceedings, TU Wien Austria, and the chosen ones will be published by the JCCS-a (Journal of Comparative Cultural Studies in Architecture).

In his speech, the Chairman of the Department of Architecture, Agung Murti Nugroho, ST., MT., Ph.D explained that SAN has been pioneered by the Department of Architecture since 2011. SAN launched into a series of archipelago architecture discussions holistically until 2017.

The theme was also sequentially. Initiated with Kearifan Nusantara on SENVAR in 2011, Kemanusiaan Nusantara SAN 1  in 2012, Keselarasan Nusantara SAN 2 in 2013, Kebhinekaan Nusantara SAN 3, Kebangsaan Nusantara on SAN 4 last year, and Kemakmuran Nusantara on InSAN 2017.
