ribut1Ribut Hermawan initially did not expect to be awarded as outstanding students (Mahasiswa Berprestasi, Mawapres) of Department of Civil Engineering in 2014 from the Faculty of Engineering Universitas Brawijaya (FT-UB). Because in terms of grade point average (GPA), there are still some students whose GPA better than him.

However, the faculty appeared to have other considerations, Ribut chosen as Mawapres from Department of Civil Engineering in 2014 because his achievement on winning third place for Indonesian Bridge Competition category Wooden Bridge in 2013 and his activity as an Assistant in Structural Analysis Assignment.

In that event, Wooden Bridge Team of Civil Engineering Universitas Brawijaya also won the Most Beautiful Wooden Bridge, Wooden Bridge Realistically Implementation Method, and Complete K3 Wooden Bridge. In this team, Ribut act as the team leader.

“I like to be involved in the competition, because i like the feel of it. Beside, by following a competition such  KJI & KBGI will bring benefits, and give such a good experience. And even we failed that competition, the experience will still bring benefits for us.” said the student whose GPA is 3.71 himself.

For the same reason he and his four friends decided to join Fabrication House Competition of Indocement Awards 2014 which took place in Bogor on 9-11 November 2014. The target for this semester is to win the competition, finish college, and achieve a higher GPA.

He already work on his thesis, the prerequisite for graduation. In his thesis, he cooperated with PT. Panel Modern Indonesia. “I examined the behavior of the M-panel walls which concept are drafted as shear walls to resist lateral loads,” said Ribut who is alumni of the SMA 1 Lamongan.

With many activities, Ribut confess that he must spend his time wisely, so everything he done will get the best result. He hopes to has career in a company or contractor in the field of civil engineering after he finish his study. (and/mic)
