JDIE (2)Universitas Brawijaya (UB) once again incised achievement, this time in the 2017 Japan Design & Invention Expo (JDIE) International held on 4-6 August 2017 at Tokyo International Exhibition Center, Big Sight, Japan. Represented by the Bio-ITech team, UB successfully brought home the silver medal and achieved a special award as Best Inventor with their innovation, BINGO (Smart Blood Detector with Integrated Database System for Easy Blood Availability Monitoring).

The creation of the work was due to the difficulty of blood stock monitoring process between Hospital and Blood Bank of Indonesian Red Cross. The output of this research is the creation of a blood type detection device and a database which will be connected via the Internet of Things (IoT) module. The blood group information detected by BINGO will be transmitted to the database. Then the frequency of the blood type that is read will be calculated by 250 ml which is the standard volume of adult donors. The information then can be accessed using a computer application located in the Hospital, so user can access the information in real-time.

JDIE (1)Held at the largest convention center in Japan, to accommodate creative ideas and views interchange among students is the most important purpose for the Expo, so the participants are mainly students, all levels are welcomed. The category is not only invention or design, but also art, technology or performance. One big difference of the Expo is the participants can present their works in any ways, as creative and innovative as possible to get the attention of the visitors, the jury, and even the buyers.

During their research Bio-ITECH UB team that is consist of Reza Kemal Firdaus (FT-Electrical Engineering), Wahyuningyan Arini (MIPA-Biology), Abu Hanifah Ramadhani (MIPA-Biology), and Rizhaf Setyo Hartono (MIPA-Instrumentation) guided by Rudy Yuwono, ST MSc, lecturer of Electrical Engineering of Faculty of Engineering Universitas Brawijaya. In this research, Bio-Itech team is also sponsored by Garuda Indonesia as the main sponsor, PT Petrokimia Gresik Company, and also Malang Strudel.

JDIE (3)“Alhamdulillah, eventually all of our efforts paid greatly and of course we are very proud to have opportunity to boast the name of the alma mater in the international sphere. We also want to thank UB, especially FT (Faculty of Engineering) and F-MIPA (Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences) who always support our research, as well as the sponsors. In the future this tool will be developed again and hopefully soon can be used by the society,” said Bio-iTech team leader, Reza Kemal Firdaus proud. (rsh/mic)
