UB Architect and PWK Students Winning by Developing the Kebumen Terracotta Industry
The FTUB Architecture & PWK student team managed to occupy the top 5 positions in the Terracotta-Themed Tourism Village Competition in Logede Village, Pejagoan District, Kebumen Regency, Central Java.
The contest for architectural design ideas organized by SAPPK ITB and LPPM ITB aims to get a design for the Logede Tourism Village by utilizing local potential, namely terracotta, in an innovative and creative way.
Terracotta is the village’s flagship product which has been developed into Sokka tiles and bricks over the years. Some of the design requirements are: utilizing terracotta in the design work, can be realized, has other locality themes, and is sustainable.
This national-level design contest was held online and was attended by dozens of student participants. Under the guidance of Dr. Ir. Ema Yunita Titisari, ST., MT., the Terracotta Themed Tourism Village contest team consists of:
M. Farhan Ardiansyah (A’20), Richard Putra Sunaryo (A’20), Arindi Eka Prastiwi (A’20), Novia Dewantari (A’20), and Anissa Novia (PWK’20)
The work entitled Abhipraya Sokka which means hope or future of Sokka terracotta includes the design of a tourist center consisting of several buildings/facilities with contemporary Javanese architectural style with terracotta nuances, a village gate, and a space belonging to a road (rumija).
In the design, village potential is raised through the concept of edutourism, namely by providing educational facilities as well as tours. Educational activities are not only to introduce terracotta but also to develop terracotta into innovative products with high value.
In their work, the team also provides restaurants, communal spaces, and bicycle tours so that tourists can enjoy the beauty and atmosphere of Logede Village. Other educational tourism facilities are related to integrated agriculture because agriculture is still the livelihood of most residents.
“The hope is that the terracotta industry can develop and the environment can be saved,” concluded Farhan as team leader.
