Another brilliant achievement was achieved by the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Brawijaya (FT UB) through one of its lecturers from the Department of Urban & Regional Planning (PWK), who won 3rd place or Best Three in the National One Map Policy Thinker event.

This competition is a prestigious event that assesses participants’ ability to create Policy Briefs with substantive content related to the use of thematic geospatial information to support regional development and environmental management. This activity will take place from 1 April 2024 to 12 July 2024, attended by several Ministers in the Ministerial Meeting session.

The lecturer who achieved this achievement was Adipandang Yudono, S.Si., M.U.R.P., Ph.D. Together with him, there were team members with different professional backgrounds, namely Dr (Cand) Firman Afrianto from the Professional Association of Planning Experts Association and Annisa Dira Hariyanto from Regional and City Planning Practitioners.

This Policy Brief Competition is the newest type of competition in Indonesia, where participants are asked to carry out academic studies accompanied by the support of policy and regulatory documents in carrying out the government’s agenda and activity programs.

The One Map Policy (OMP) Summit is a cross-stakeholder forum to discuss the sustainability of the implementation of the One Map Policy and encourage solutions to issues regarding the use of spatial data for the advancement of Indonesia’s development, coordinated by the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs.

“Specifically regarding the One Map Policy Thinker activity, this competition takes the form of preparing a Policy Brief containing ideas regarding proposed innovations for input to the new government regarding programs that link scientific studies and strategies of political interest for planning and development activities in Indonesia,” explained Adipandang.

Furthermore, Adipandang also explained that through various interactive sessions, this forum encourages new thinking and approaches in providing a forum for development practitioners in the public and private sectors.

Not only that, the younger generation can network and exchange ideas, raise policy insights, intelligent practitioners and learning from the grassroots to the national level, as well as international experiences that are relevant to the Indonesian context.

“Our team conducted theoretical and policy literature studies for a year before being entered in the competition accompanied by focused group discussions in three regions, namely in South Sumatra Province (Sumsel), East Kalimantan Province (Kaltim), and Bali Province along with the regencies and cities in the three regions. the province,” he added.

By winning 3rd place in the National One Map Policy Thinker competition, it is hoped that it will increase awareness of the importance of using geospatial information in regional development and environmental management in Indonesia. This achievement is also clear evidence that FT UB continues to contribute to the field of research and policy development that has a positive impact on society.

Congratulations to Adipandang Yudono, S.Si., M.U.R.P., Ph.D. for this brilliant achievement. Hopefully this success can motivate all Brawijaya University lecturers and students to continue to innovate and make their best contribution to national development.[drn/mic]
