As part of the Dosen Berkarya (Dokar) program, the Civil Engineering Department of the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Brawijaya (FT UB), conducted an International Community Service in Thailand on August 20-21, 2024.
The team consists of Ir. Eko Andi Suryo, ST, MT, Ph.D, IPU, ASEAN Eng (Head of the Civil Engineering Department), Dr. Eng. Ir. Yatnanta Padma Devia, ST, MT (Head of the Master’s Program in Civil Engineering), Dr. Eng. Ir. Alwafi Pujiraharjo, ST, MT (Head of the Doctoral Program in Civil Engineering), and Ir. This community service program targeted two high schools, Thammislam Foundation School on August 20 and Santichon Islamic School on August 21. The primary focus of this activity was to provide education on bridges and disaster mitigation, particularly earthquakes.
At Thammislam Foundation School, the activity was accompanied by Rungsun Tongta, the Director of Thammislam Foundation School, along with the teaching staff. The team from UB delivered the material interactively, aiming to raise students’ awareness of the importance of bridge infrastructure and disaster mitigation efforts.
The following day, a similar activity was carried out at Santichon Islamic School. This service was directly accompanied by Prasert Mussari, the President of Santichon Islamic School, and Dr. Manat Boonchom, the Director of Santichon Islamic School.
The content provided remained consistent, focusing on knowledge about bridges and disaster mitigation, emphasizing the importance of earthquake preparedness.
In addition to providing education, the activity also included the signing of an Implementation of Arrangement (IA) for Academic Cooperation and International Community Service between Universitas Brawijaya and each partner school.
“This IA aims to strengthen academic cooperation and community service at the international level, which is expected to continue in the future,” said the Head of the Civil Engineering Department, Ir. Eko Andi Suryo, S.T., M.T., Ph.D.
This program not only focuses on enhancing students’ knowledge but also serves as an effort to expand UB’s international cooperation network, particularly in community service. This activity aligns with UB’s vision to continuously improve the quality of education and its contribution to the global community.
“With this collaboration, it is hoped that closer relationships will be established between UB and partner schools in Thailand and that the Civil Engineering Department of FTUB will gain more international recognition, especially in promoting the international undergraduate program in Civil Engineering (IUP),” concluded Ir. Eko.
