The event was held at the Integrated Laboratory of Universitas Brawijaya, Kedawung, Ngijo, Karang Ploso District, Malang Regency, on August 24, 2024. The activity was attended by Miftahul Bari, M.Pd.,Gr., the principal of SMA Bahrul Maghfiroh, and enthusiastic student representatives who actively participated in the training.

SMA Bahrul Maghfiroh, as a partner in the Doktor Mengabdi program, has a mission to foster self-reliant, entrepreneurial skills. One of its flagship programs is the double-track program, focusing on cultivation and industry, including maggot farming.

“SMA Bahrul Maghfiroh initially faced challenges in maggot farming, particularly regarding the short lifespan of maggots and the lack of maggot processing technology,” explained one team member, Ir. Luthfi.

To address these issues, he continued, the Doktor Mengabdi team donated equipment, including a dryer, oil press, and grinder, to SMA Bahrul Maghfiroh. These tools are designed to process fresh maggots into maggot flour, which can extend their shelf life and increase their market value.

“This maggot flour has excellent nutritional content for fish and livestock feed,” added the Chemical Engineering lecturer.

They were also allowed to practice the processing steps directly, from washing the maggots, drying, and oil pressing, to grinding them into flour.

Proper maggot processing will yield high-quality maggot flour, which not only extends the shelf life but also increases the economic value of the product. This aligns with SMA Bahrul Maghfiroh’s goal of developing students’ entrepreneurial skills through the double-track program.

The Doktor Mengabdi program is expected to positively impact SMA Bahrul Maghfiroh by increasing maggot farming productivity and enhancing students’ entrepreneurial skills. Additionally, this activity strengthens the collaborative relationship between Brawijaya University and SMA Bahrul Maghfiroh in education and community service.

“With this maggot processing technology, SMA Bahrul Maghfiroh is expected to optimize its maggot farming output and prepare its students to compete in the workforce with strong entrepreneurial skills,” he concluded. (mic)
