Industrial Engineering Students Win Grand Prize at Osaka University 2024 Event

TIUB win osaka contestStudents from Universitas Brawijaya (UB) have achieved international recognition. In the Osaka University Student Video Contest 2024 and the SDGs Virtual Exchange Program, the UB Industrial Engineering student team won 1st Place and the Grand Prize Osaka President Award.

The competition, themed Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), targeted students from Osaka University and partner universities worldwide, gathering a total of 89 participants from around the globe.

The final results of the competition were announced at the Video Contest Awards Ceremony and Student Forum held on Monday, December 16, 2024.

The team of six Industrial Engineering students earned the highest honor through their project, “From Fabric Waste to Wonder: Indonesian Women Leading Upcycling Innovation“.

The six team members are Graciella Laura Jenny Situmorang, Muhammad Arif Maliki Hari Saputra, Imelda Puji Pangestu, Bagus Rangga Kurnia, Faishal Zakirwan Dien Moeslimin, and Nathanael Cahyadi.

This project highlights the innovation of upcycling fabric waste, involving Indonesian women as leaders in creating sustainable solutions. The theme aligns with global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly focusing on responsible production and consumption.

The team’s supervisor, Ir. L. Tri Wijaya Nata Kusuma, S.T., M.T., Ph.D., expressed his appreciation for their success in achieving this international recognition.

“Through participating in this competition, we push and motivate our students to compete internationally, tackling various global topics and issues. They become more adaptive and eager to learn from diverse sources,” he said.

This competition serves as a platform for students from various countries to exchange ideas and innovative solutions regarding global issues. UB Industrial Engineering students have successfully contributed to sustainability issues on the international stage.
