Students of the International Undergraduate Program (IUP) Industrial Engineering Universitas Brawijaya Hold a Field Trip to PT. Lamong Bay Terminal

Second semester students from the International Undergraduate Program (IUP), Department of Industrial Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Brawijaya University, held a field trip to PT. Teluk Lamong Terminal as part of the 45th Faculty of Engineering Student Work Camp activities on Wednesday, February 5 2025. This visit aims to provide students with practical insight into modern port operations based on green technology and increase their understanding of technology integration in the transportation and logistics sector.

This field trip was attended by 6 IUP students and 7 students representing laboratories and studios in the Industrial Engineering Department, Faculty of Engineering, Brawijaya University. During this visit, participants had the opportunity to learn more deeply about port operational systems, the application of automation technology, and the sustainability strategies implemented at PT. Teluk Lamong Terminal, which is known as the pioneer of green smart ports in Indonesia. Apart from that, students also have the opportunity to discuss directly with professionals in the port industry regarding future challenges and opportunities in the maritime industry.

The group of students was welcomed by PT. Teluk Lamong Terminal, which provides an explanation of the various innovations that have been implemented, including automatic crane systems, the use of electric vehicles, and environmentally friendly waste management. In this session, students are given the opportunity to understand how this technology is applied to increase efficiency and reduce environmental impact. The company also explained their long-term initiatives in creating a greener port ecosystem based on digitalization.

Apart from listening to the presentation, students were also invited to tour to see firsthand the implementation of technology in port operations. They witnessed how the automation system worked to increase productivity and how energy and resource management was carried out to minimize negative impacts on the surrounding environment. With this visit, students get direct experience that they can relate to the theory they have learned in lectures.

One of the field trip participants, Ahmed Abdo Othman Naji Al-Yousofy, an IUP Industrial Engineering student from Yemen, expressed his positive impression of this visit. “This field trip is very useful because it provides a real picture of how technology and sustainability can be integrated in the port industry. This is a valuable experience for us as prospective engineers.” Other students also expressed similar sentiments, highlighting how important hands-on experience is in understanding industry challenges and finding innovative solutions for the future.

With visits to leading companies such as PT. Teluk Lamong Terminal, Industrial Engineering students at Universitas Brawijaya are expected to be better prepared to face industrial challenges in the future. It is also hoped that this activity can broaden students’ insight into real-world industrial applications and provide inspiration for the development of sustainable industrial technology. Apart from that, it is hoped that collaboration with industry like this can continue to be developed, so that students can be more involved in real projects and research that can make a positive contribution to the development of industrial technology in Indonesia.
