FT UB Collaborates with EduSquad to Hold Socialization of New LAM TEKNIK Instrument
In an effort to improve the quality of study program accreditation and readiness to face external evaluation, the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Brawijaya (FTUB) in collaboration with EduSquad held a Socialization of the New LAM TEKNIK Instrument. This activity was held at the Prof. Ir. Suryono Auditorium, FTUB Dean’s Building, on Tuesday (10/6/2025) and was attended by representatives of the Faculty of Engineering from all universities in Indonesia. It was recorded that 116 participants from 29 universities attended the Prof. Ir. Suryono Auditorium. This socialization activity was officially opened by the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Prof. Dr. Ir. Imam Santoso, MP.
LAM TEKNIK (Independent Engineering Accreditation Institute) is an accreditation body that specifically handles accreditation of engineering study programs in Indonesia. Starting in 2025, LAM TEKNIK has officially implemented a new instrument. With this socialization, it will provide an in-depth understanding of the new instrument prepared by the Independent Engineering Accreditation Institute (LAM Teknik) and encourage universities to implement a culture of quality in a sustainable manner.
Dean of FT UB, Prof. Ir. Hadi Suyono, S.T., MT., Ph.D., IPU., ASEAN Eng., APEC Eng., explained that this new instrument is an effort to improve the quality of engineering education in Indonesia. He also explained the importance of internal quality audit (AIM) as a continuous evaluation mechanism.
“This instrument requires a change from four criteria to nine criteria, with a focus on relevance, accountability, and scientific vision based on local wisdom. This is a big step to ensure that our higher education is on par with global standards. In addition, FT UB has routinely conducted AIM every semester to ensure that all study programs are ready to face this change in standards,” he explained.
Meanwhile, Secretary of the Executive Committee of LAM Teknik, Prof. Ir. Meilana Dharma Putra, ST., M.Sc., Ph.D., IPM, outlined the main challenges in implementing the new instrument, which is to strengthen the outcome weight by 40%, in accordance with the direction of the impactful campus. The focus is on strengthening basic science, laboratory safety, and design capabilities that require major adjustments. He also emphasized the importance of changing the mindset among universities.
“Accreditation is no longer just a five-yearly routine, but must be part of a sustainable annual quality culture. In this way, the accreditation process will not be a burden, but an opportunity to continue improving quality,” he explained.
In addition to the presentations from Prof. Hadi and Prof. Meilana, the socialization material was also delivered by Prof. Ir. Markus Hartono, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., CHFP., IPU., ASEAN. Eng and Ir. Ika Noer Syamsiana, S.T., M.T., Ph.D, IPU., ASEAN Eng., APEC Eng. The main focus of the discussion included substantial changes to the LAM TEKNIK instrument, adjustments to form documents, the OBE approach, and the importance of system-based evidence and supporting data.
The participants seemed enthusiastic about following the socialization, which was presented interactively with a question and answer session. Lecturers and study program managers were also invited to examine the challenges and solutions in implementing a curriculum based on learning outcomes.
With the implementation of this socialization, FTUB hopes that all study programs can immediately adjust to the new instrument and increase synergy between units in supporting the accreditation process. In addition, it is hoped that all engineering study programs present at this socialization can achieve superior accreditation rankings according to LAM TEKNIK standards and support the achievement of the university’s vision towards a global reputation.[drn]
