Strengthening Journal, BPJ FTUB Held Workshop on OJS Management

In an effort to improve the quality of journal management within the UB Faculty of Engineering, the Journal Publishing Agency (BPJ) held a Technical Workshop on the Management of the Open Journal System (OJS) at the Journal in the FTUB Environment, Tuesday, September 10, 2019.

BPJ is a unit that is responsible for the management and improvement of research and community service conducted by the UB academic community. Journal Publishing Agency continues to strive so that all journals in FTUB are able to achieve National accreditation and are indexed in international databases.

Open Journal System (OJS) is a system for organizing and publishing journals and websites. OJS covers all aspects of online journal publishing, from creating journal websites to operational tasks such as the author submission process, peer review, editing, publication, archives, and journal indexes.

Muhammad Nurjati Hidayat., ST., MT as the Chairperson of the Committee revealed that this kind of workshop had already been held, but the implementation was still not optimal, so BPJ took the initiative to provide refreshment.

“I think there are still difficulties in the application of OJS in several departments, so we deliberately hold this workshop,” he said.

He also expressed the expectation of the BPJ, that after this training the journal managers could be better in preparing the FTUB-published journals to face the national accreditation and subsequently indexed in an international database.

This activity was opened directly by the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, Ir. Ishardita Pambudi Tama, ST., MT., Ph.D in the 3rd fl. Meeting Room of the FTUB Building. He stated the importance of this activity for future journal management.

Considering that there are 10 journals in FTUB, and it is possible that there will be additional international journals in each department, so the role of journal manager is very necessary.

“In addition to adding and refreshing knowledge, this event is also a place to share experiences between journal managers in order to increase the quantity and quality of journal publications in the FTUB environment,” hoped Ir. Ishardita.

Invited to provide material, Rizki Trisnadi, ST., Coordinator of the Communication and Information Technology Unit (TIK). Answering Vice Dean’s expectations, he focused the afternoon’s material on sharing experiences between managers during the application of OJS, what difficulties were experienced and how the solutions were.

Participants consisting of lecturers and staff who are responsible for the management of OJS in the FTUB environment are also invited to practice directly the implementation of OJS. (mic)
