Improving the Quality of Coastal Communities UB Students Get Silver Award in Malaysia

The RETRO SWEPER Team representing Universitas Brawijaya participated in the International Invention and Innovative Competition (InIIC Series 2/2019) held by MNNF NETWORK on November 2, 2019 at the Palace of the Golden Horses in Selangor, Malaysia.

The team consisted of five UB students in 2016 class; Yulizar (Chemical Engineering), Ayuningtrias U. W. (Chemical Engineering), Aulia Triangga Dewi (Agricultural Industry Technology), Aditya Teguh P. (Informatics Engineering), and Gema Isya Luthfi P. (Informatics Engineering). Of the 268 works submitted, under the guidance of Nurul Faiqotul Himma, ST., MT., the SWEEPER RETRO team succeeded in getting the Silver Award.

All abstract of each participants in each category will be assessed by the committee. The team that passes will proceed to the next stage, the exhibiton. At the exhibiton stage, each team will be judged by two judges who are relevant to the area of ​​the invention. This assessment is very strict, because there are various criteria that must be met, including novelty, benefits for users, society, commercialization, and other assessments such as publications, awards, recognition, intellectual property, etc.

This exhibition was held on November 2, 2019 in Selangor, Malaysia. The theme carried by the RETRO SWEPER Team was the use of Indonesian marine resources in improving the quality of the welfare of the people especially the coastal communities.

The team is also considering the issue of waste which is being discussed in which the amount continues to increase every year. The RETRO SWEPER Team uses the latest technology that’s Retarded Reverse Osmosis.

In addition, the SWEPER RETRO team also utilized eggshell and shellfish waste as coagulants and adsorbents in the pre-treatment process. The use of this waste will reduce the waste generated, especially domestic waste.

“Hopefully with this victory, we can ignite the enthusiasm and motivate our friends out there in developing their abilities so that they can provide the best performance and can also boast the big names of Departments, Faculties and Universities,” Yulizar hoped represents his team. (mic)
