KKM XLII: FTUB Serves the Nation

Entering the 42nd year, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Brawijaya (FTUB) Student Work Camp (KKM) carries the tagline ‘FTUB Serving the Nation’. This year the KKM XLII was held in Dalisodo Village, Wagir District, Malang Regency on January 20-23, 2020.

Vice Dean for Student Affairs FT-UB Dr.Eng. Ir. Denny Widhiyanuriyawan as the person in charge of the activity said that the KKM participants consisted of 638 students and 428 students. The new students will be accompanied by hundreds of senior students and a committee of lecturers and staff.

In his report he explained that new students, the committee, and the community would work together to carry out the nine projects planned. These projects include piping, cleaning drainage channels, installing solar cell for street lighting, training in waste management, teaching in nearby schools, training in online marketing and counseling related to the development of tourist villages, making tourist directions, and greening thousands trees which are carried out in collaboration with Perum Jasa Tirta I and the Department of Forestry.

Meanwhile the FT Dean, Dr. Ir. Pitojo Tri Juwono in his speech, conveyed that the aim of KKM was to instill community service as early as possible as part of the tri darma of higher education, both to new students and accompanying lecturers.

“This activity will be ongoing, the leadership and accompanying lecturers will continue to monitor and view the location alternately. It will not stop there, even after this activity, this location can be a place for collaboration of FTUB lecturers to maintain and develop this area further,” he said.

He also emphasized that FT lecturers, students, and alumni cannot just sit quietly behind a desk, they have to be able to read, map, and capture all the problems that exist in society and find solutions.

He also advised the committee that, under WD3 coordination, they must ensure that the activities were conducive, worked together well, and provided benefits at the location.

For the participants, it is hoped that they can take care of themselves and their health well, be independent, be able to follow all instructions from the committee, so that the target of work in the field can be achieved on time and provide good memories during college.

After the ceremony, KKM participants were dispatched to 2 groups to the location of the activity. The KKM activity itself will take place from 04.00 – 22.00 every day, so it is expected that participants can maintain their physical and health conditions as well as the ethics and good name of alma mater while serving in the Dalisodo community.
