Discuss Hydrometeorological Disaster Mitigation, Water Resources Engineering Holds 3in1 Program

The Department of Water Resources Engineering (WRE), Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Brawijaya (FTUB) is again holding the 3in1 Program on 18 May 2023 – 13 October 2023.

On this occasion, the Department of Water Engineering collaborated with the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee and Perum Jasa Tirta I.

This 3in1 activity is a triple helix program between Universitas Brawijaya academics (Internal Lecturer), industry represented by competent practitioners in their fields (Expert Practitioners), and international academics (Visiting Professors) to make Universitas Brawijaya a World Class University.

In this program, the invited international academics (Visiting Professors) are Professor Dr. Deepak Khare of the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, India. He is a distinguished professor in the Department of Water Resources Development and Management at the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee.

Then the competent practitioner (Expert Practitioner) who was invited was Dr. Fahmi Hidayat, ST., MT, from Perum Jasa Tirta I. Dr. Fahmi is an expert in civil engineering who works at Perum Jasa Tirta I, a state-owned company in Indonesia which is engaged in the management of water resources, especially for irrigation activities. Currently serves as Senior VP for Finance, Planning, and Performance Management at Perum Jasa Tirta 1.

This time, the issue raised in the 3in1 program is “Multi-natural Disaster Management to Improve Disaster Resilience Strategy”. The material presented in this program includes various perspectives on hydrometeorological disasters and water resources management.

Concerning this issue, speakers from various institutions and agencies provided materials for 16 meetings and a course of 31 hours. These materials include:

  • Prof. Deepak Khare
“Water Resources Development,”; “Groundwater and Climate Change,”; “Monitoring and Modelling of urban Spawrl,”; “Land Use and Cover Analysis”
  • Prof. Dr. Eng. Donny Harisuseno, ST., MT.
“Disaster Mitigation Against Fulfillment of SGD’s”
  • Prof. Dr. Ir. Ussy Andawayanti, MS., IPM.
    “Sustainable Water Resources Management”
  • Prof. Dr. Ir. Suhardjono, Mpd., Dipl.HE.
“Flood Monitoring and Control System in the City”
  • Fahmi Hidayat, ST., MT.
“The impact of climate change on the Brantas watershed”; “Brantas Watershed Conservation”; “Evaluation and monitoring of Dams”; “Sedimentation in Upper Brantas”
  • Sri Wahyuni, ST., MT., Ph.D., IPM.
    “Surface and Sub-Surface Water Management”
  • Dr.Eng. Ir. Riyanto Haribowo, ST., MT., IPM.
“The Impact of Land Use and Climate Change on Microplastics”
  • Jadfan Sidqi Fidari, ST., MT.
“The Impact of Hydrometeorological Disasters on Water Building Planning”
  • Rahmah Dara Lufira, ST., MT.
“Sponge City To Reduce Flooding in Urban Area”

The Chief Executive of the 3in1 Program, Prof. Dr. Ir. Ussy Andawayanti, MS., IPM., explained that with the 3in1 lecture, it was hoped that academics and students could understand Hydrometeorology and Water Resources Development.

“With this understanding of science, hopefully, we can make predictions and observations on climate change that can anticipate multi-natural disasters. Besides that, it can equip students to have a more real picture when they enter the world of work,” said Prof. Ussy.

With this activity, he continued, it was hoped that students would be able to increase competence and insight regarding the issues discussed and increase opportunities for cooperation and collaboration between the WRE Department and the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee and Perum Jasa Tirta I.
