Department of Industrial Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Brawijaya held an international conference entitled The 1st International Conference on Engineering and Management in Industrial Systems (The 1st ICOEMIS), Thursday, August 8, 2019, at the Paramount Hall of Atria Hotel and Conference Malang.

Adjusting to the challenges in the current field of industrial management, the conference raised the issue of Open Innovation Applications in the Service and Manufacturing Industries as the main focus.

“There were 122 papers involved at our first conference, of which 9 percent came from abroad,” said the Chair of the Organizing Committee, Sugiono, Ph.D.

The participating countries are came from Belgium, the Philippines, Thailand, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Sierra Leonne, and Indonesia.

While the main purpose of this conference is to provide a forum for researchers, engineers, academics, and industry professionals from around the world to present their ideas, activities, and research results so far.

To survive in Global Business, SMEs, universities, and governments must collaborate to utilize all the potential resources available to face the very rapid changes in the future.

Acting as Keynote Speakers are Prof. Dr. Wim Vanhaverberke from Neoma Business School France and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd Rizal bin Salleh from Malaysia Technical University, Malacca.

In his presentation, Wim Vanhaverberke conveyed the theme of Open Innovation Management to SMEs. While Rizal bin Salleh presented Nuturing Open Innovation Among SME’s : Malaysia persectives..

Besides 2 keynote speakers, TI-UB also invited 3 other speakers. They are Dr. Andi Sudjana Putra from the National University of Singapore, Naris Charoenphorn, M.Eng., from Thammasat University, Thailand, and Oyong Novareza, Ph.D from Brawijaya University.

Present at the opening ceremony, the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Prof. Dr. Aulanni’am, DVM., DES. She revealed that the Government had facilitated industry-campus collaboration through the Academic Business Government (ABG).

The French-speaking professor is also optimistic that this international conference will provide many benefits for participants, presenters, and committees.

“I believe this international conference is able to provide a platform for academics, researchers and engineers to exchange ideas, trigger campus-industry collaboration nationally and internationally and create new technology,” she hoped before opening the event. (mic/and)
