Alumni for the Country

Alumni must return to campus. That was stated by the Chairperson of the Water Resources Alumni Forum (FAP) Department of Water Engineering FT UB, Dr. Ir. John Pantauw MS, at the 2th FAP National Conference on Saturday (10/26/2019).

This meeting is a synergy of alumni with alumni, alumni with students, and alumni with campus. “We are synergized so that alumni performance will be better. We have connectivity so that work relationships between alumni can be achieved then alumni can provide their experiences to students. Alumni can provide input to the campus regarding outside developments. So the department knows what is needed outside, “explained John.

The contribution of alumni to this blue campus was also conveyed by John. Such as scholarships, modern laboratory assistance ranging from measuring devices, frezers to water hammer, are also given in the hope that alumni will be increasingly moved forward.

“The role of alumni has also penetrated the government, for example in the Ministry of Public Works and Housing, the Director General of Natural Resources is our alumni. Previously they only knew ITB and UGM, now maybe 50 percent know about our department. In SDA starting from echelon 1, 2, and many of us are alumni,” he explained.

The same thing was also conveyed by the Chairperson of the National Conference, Ir. H. Peter Frans. According to him, with this event the alumni were expected to be able to make a major contribution to the campus. Because, after all alumni are part of the progress of the campus so that later, between alumni, campus, and students can become a stronger and better synergy in the following year.

Carrying the theme of Solidarity Towards 50TH Watering Gold. This event was held to welcome the majors gold anniversary that had been established since 1976.

“We want to be better prepared to introduce water resources ENgineering (WRE) department to the national level. Because this department was established by Prof. Suyono, and now there are alumni who become Director General of SDA, Pak Hari Suprayogi who is an 1977 alumni,” concluded Peter.

Most of the alumni already occupy important positions. He even stated that all dam construction, PLTA, PLTN, there must be Water Resources Engineering alumni.

Elected at the National Conference this time as chairman of the FAP 2019-2022 period, Director General of Water Resources Ministry of PUPR RI, Dr. Ir. Hari Suprayogi, M.Eng. Being elected as the head of the alumni adds to his pride.

Until now there are three things that he is proud of as an alumni of UB Water Resources Engineering. The first is when he was appointed Director General of Water Resources of the Republic of Indonesia, the second when he was governed by the state to discuss and complete the Water Resources Law.

“It is a pride, it takes one year. I struggled and strive with the Parliament to complete the WAter Resources law. It is a pride that the Water Resources Engineering graduate has submitted the Indonesian Law. I will give one copy to be kept at the Faculty of Engineering,” said the 1977 alumni.

For him, Ir. Suyono Sosrodarsono is the founder figure of the UB Water Resources Engineering Department. And it is such an honor for him to be appointed as the ceremonial inspector who escorted him to the grave to replace the minister who was unable to attend.

At the opening he also expressed his high hopes for the UB WRE alumni. Reflecting on the current conditions in the Ministry of PUPR, especially in the field of natural resources, he predicts that in the next 20 years, the ministry will be filled with Water Resources Engineering Alumni.

Not impossible, considering that UB’s Water Resources Engineering is the oldest and for decades been the only one in Indonesia.

Most of the alumni already occupy important positions. He even stated that all dam construction, PLTA, PLTN, there must be Water Resources Engineering alumni.

This was also confirmed by the Head of Department, Dr. Ir. Ussy Andawayanti, MS. and also the Dean of FTUB, Prof. Dr. Ir. Pitojo Tri Juwono, MT, that Water Resources Engineering Graduates have no waiting time. After or even before graduation they have been offered jobs according to their respective fields of expertise.
