Design Sprint to Escalate PKM Proposals

UB’s achievement in PKM will be one of the major contributors to student rankings at the RISTEKDIKTI level. At the end of September, UB launched The 1000 Proposals Program.

Supporting this, the Vice Dean for Student Affairs FTUB, Dr.Eng. Ir. Denny Widhiyanuriyawan intensified the 250 proposal program at the faculty level.

Facilitating students in the 250 Proposal Program, the FTUB Student Affairs conducted a Preparation and Update on PKM Workshop towards PIMNAS 2020.

Lasts for two days, 14-15 October 2019 in Prof. Auditorium Ir. Suryono, Student Affairs invited Eko Andi Suryo, ST., MT., Ph.D., to introduce Design Sprint. One method of making product design in a short time.

“It’s not easy, in a short time we have to send several hundred proposals, so today Mr. Eko will introduce us to the design sprint, please pay close attention, so that in two days we can produce several tens of proposals,” said Dr. Denny in front dozens of prospective PKM participant students.

Attended by the supervisors, that morning’s activity was immediately held by Mr. Eko. Although this activity was effectively carried out together for two days, Mr. Eko will assist until all the participants have finished completing their proposals.

Design Sprint has 5 stages that are very communicative and interactive to bring out all ideas, inspiration, existing problems, solutions that are then manifested in a prototype that must be and cross-checked with the supervisor.

Mr. Eko explained, Design Sprint, which was first introduced by Jake Knapp, was a very flexible in process, but the principle aren’t.

The core principles of the Design Sprint include Together Alone (each independent member works in achieving group goals), Tangible (ideas) over Discussion (shortens the discussion and multiplies work), Getting Started over Being Right (Starting better than at think too long to make something right), Don’t Rely on creativity (creativity is a process, don’t waste time looking for creativity, do creativity by using a structured process), and Time Box Everything!

[UPDATE – November 20, 2019]

FT-UB successfully surpassed the target by collecting 404 PKM proposals, and successfully passed a number of 181.

“Actually FT passed 225 proposals, but because there was a reduction in the PKM GT quota from 198 proposals to 75 proposals it lessen,” said the PKM coordinator from BEM FT, Lambang Tristan.

The rest of the supervisors are allowed to direct their guidance students to change the type of PKM to PKM GFK and AI by adjusting the applicable PKM format.
