Strengthening Branding, Public Relations FT Hold Videography Workshop

A video profile is a synopsis of a company or institution. Andrew Azis, the owner of Dondong Videography, presented at the Video graphics Workshop, which was held on Wednesday, October 9, 2019, in the 3rd-floor Meeting Room of the Faculty of Engineering UB (FTUB) Building.

In accordance with the theme of this annual workshop of FTUB Public Relations unit, “Be Creative, Be Informative”, Andrew revealed that video is a storytelling or storytelling activity to the audience. Basic concept is a must.

Video making must pay attention to several aspects. In addition to being interesting, it is important to know to whom the video will be introduced, what’s the purposes of the video, the target audience, and the benefits that companies or institutions can provide for the audience.

“When we make a video decide which aspect we want to show, is that emotions, history, experience, marketing, or make it as a communication media. Don’t make mistakes in the concept,” said Andrew.

After the concept, first thing to do is make a storyboard or shortlist. A storyboard is a visualization of a concept in the form of a series of sketch drawings that fully depict a video project such as TVC /television commercials, company profile, etc.

Storyboard will be a guide when shooting or in pre-production phase. Entering a lot of information will make the video more complete, but videos that are too long will make viewers tend to get bored. Choose relevant information to be included in the video, and avoid repeating similar information and use effective sentences.

“Make a video with the right duration,” this FTUB Electrical Engineering alumni said.

Music determination must also be careful because  it sensitive to copyright. If you want to use songs, it would be better if you use free music sites such as the one on youtube.com/audiolibrary.

This workshop itself is an Annual workshop held by the Public Relation unit of Administrator of Information System and Public Relations (PSIK) FTUB. Since 2015 the Public Relations unit of PSIK FTUB has provided three training related to publications; Public Relations and Article Writing Workshop (2015 & 2018), Everyone is a PRO (Public Relations Officer) Workshop in (2016 & 2018), and Photography Workshop in 2017.

Nowadays video information is deemed more desirable, especially for millennials. Dr.Techn. Yusfan Adeputra Yusfan as Chair of the Public Relations PSIK FTUB felt that institutional branding would be better targeted if it was packaged in the form of a video.

“Honestly, we hold this Videographic Workshop for the sake of branding,” said the architecture lecturer.

He admitted that this workshop was intended to equip academicians FTUB in the field of videography so that each department/institution can make a profile video of each department. This workshop focuses on how to process information into interesting and informative videos so that they can sell their respective departments/institutions.

“To be more interesting and at the same time enliven FTUB’s 56th Anniversary, we’ll make a video profile competition. At the peak of the anniversary of the FTUB 56th anniversary on October 27th, we will give 3 best profile videos and one of the most favorite profile videos a prize,” said the Chair of the Faculty of Public Relations, who was just appointed July 18, 2019.
