UB Industrial Engineering Win First and Favorite Champion in 2019 iSMEC’s Scientific Competition

Two teams of students from the Department of Industrial Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Brawijaya (TI FT-UB) successfully brought two titles in the iSMEC’S (Industrial on Small Medium Enterprise Competition) 2019 industrial engineering scientific competition which took place on November 11-14.

The annual competition held by the Industrial Engineering Student Association (HMTI) UB passed 10 teams to the final round of a total of 63 teams that registered. They must go beyond the online selection round to test participants’ understanding of Industrial Engineering science.

The final round was attended by 2 teams from the Institut Teknologi Bandung, 2 teams from the Institut Teknologi Sepuluh November Surabaya, 1 team from Universitas Gadjah Mada, 1 team from the Universitas Indonesia, 1 team from the Universitas Islam Indonesia, 1 team Universitas Sebelas Maret, and 2 teams from the host of UB.

In the final round, the 10 teams went through a visit to the object of the competition (SME Griya Batik Olive Batu City) to observe the business process and shoot video. Then the next day the team must pass a written test of industrial engineering scientific insights.

On the same day, each team also had to undergo a running lab to work on case studies related to the knowledge deepened in each laboratory. As for the last day, the results of the visit to the object of research will be presented before the jury.

The competition jury who took the theme of The Story of Archipelago’s Batik Legacy in the ASEAN Economic Community was a lecturer at the Faculty of Agricultural Technology UB Suprayogi, STP, MP., Ph.D, Business Development Reviewer for the East Java Cooperative and SME Office Siti Muslichah, S. Sos, M .HP, and owner of Batik Olive SMEs Batu Iwan A. Irawan.

The results of the evaluation of the winners are based on the accumulated scores of these stages and on the proportions of each test.

Annisa Intan Tuwantri, Rheza Adnandy, and Ahmad Amirul Iman Haqh who joined the host team, the START UP team, won the 1st place.

The START UP team noted some input from observations to increase local batik sales. Among them provide education to the public about the high artistic value of written batik.

“Promotion through social media like on Facebook and Instagram is also important. Then innovation can also be given by making a member card for customers, ” said one of the team member, Annisa.

While the 2nd place winner was the True Saji team from the Bandung Institute of Technology while the 3rd place winner was the Konoha Seven team from the University of Indonesia.

Then the Favorite Champion based on the number of likes on the uploaded video falls on the OPTIMISTI team of the host UB. The OPTIMISTI team consisted of Syafira Yopiananda, M. Asra’ul Hasibin Fahmi, and Nizar Prama Rizaldi.

“We are happy because the video we made was appreciated by many people, thank you for your support,” Syafira said.

“We are grateful to be able to bring the name of TI-UB in the competition this time, which is at the same time two champions won by TI-UB,” another OPTIMISTI team member Hasibin added. (and)
