FTUB Holds Guest Lectures from ELNUSA and Kyoto University

The Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Brawijaya (FTUB) held a Guest Lecture entitled “ELNUSA Leaders Sharing & Action (ELSA) feat Kyoto University” with keynote speakers from the Main Director of PT Elnusa Fabrication Construction Ari Wijaya and Professor of the Graduate School of Management, Kyoto University, Prof. Nakayama Sumie, in the Prof. Ir Suryono Auditorium FTUB Building, Monday, 18 September 2023.

Nakahara Sumie - First SpeakerProf. Nakayama Sumie was the first session speaker at this guest lecture which was attended by around 150 participants from across departments. The energy modeling and climate policy analysis expert delivered a presentation “New Business Opportunities in Future Industries in Energy Transition”.

“There are several strategies for achieving Net Zero Emissions by 2050 by the IEA in a relatively short time target. Including energy efficiency, hydrogen, bioenergy, and electrification,” she said.

The professor who is also the Executive Officer at the J-POWER Electric Power Development Company said that achieving this target is not as easy as imagined, but it is not impossible.

“This is a business opportunity, especially for engineers. Maybe currently you are a student and have not found the right answer or solution to help achieve this target. No problems, you will find them later by continuing to work and study hard,” she said.

Speaker kedua, Ari Wijaya - ElnusaMeanwhile, the Main Director of PT Elnusa Fabrication Construction, Ari Wijaya, in the second guest lecture session advised students to have a JUARA mentality and foundation in whatever field of work they will pursue after college.

“You must have the mind of being number 1 wherever you are. A strong foundation for becoming a JUARA is integrity or trustworthiness in the position you hold, including the knowledge you have,” said the alumnus of the FTUB Mechanical Engineering Department who was also Danki for the PKK Maba in 1989.

Apart from that, students must be able to understand and evaluate business situations or have business acumen abilities, either as business owners or employees to earn a living.

Not only were they given insight by experts, at the ELSA Guest Lecture (ELNUSA Leaders Sharing & Action (ELSA)) all students were also exposed to opportunities for internships, On The Job Training, or a career at PT Elnusa.

Dean of FTUB Prof. Ir. Hadi Suyono, ST., MT., Ph.D., IPU., ASEAN Eng. in his speech when opening the event, said that national energy security is an important issue because the role of energy is quite central and vital in national development and national resilience, one of which is by taking advantage of the many alternatives in the future.

“Hopefully this activity can provide benefits for us all, especially for students, as well as being able to increase scientific knowledge and produce quality human resources that are competitive at national and international levels,” hoped the professor in the field of Power Systems Engineering and Artificial Intelligence.
