FT UB Lecturer Team Presents Digital Mapping of Historical Buildings at Kampoeng Heritage Kayoetangan

The Team of Community Service Lecturers (PKM) of the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Brawijaya (FT UB) successfully created innovative work, namely the Digital Mapping of historic buildings in Kampoeng Heritage Kayoetangan in Malang City. The team is led by Dr. Eng. Ir. Herry Santosa, ST., MT., IPM. It has four members (four lecturers, including Ir. Rusdi Tjahjono, MSA (1); Dr. Triandriani Mustikawati, ST., MT (2); Dr. Eng. Novi Sunu Sri Giriwati, ST., M.Sc (3); and Ir. Muhammad Satya Adhitama, ST., M.Sc., CIQnR., CIQaR (4).

Nowadays, Kampoeng Heritage Kayutangan has become a city village tourist destination that is frequently visited because it is full of historical values. Most of the existing residential buildings have a colonial architectural style. The collection of hundreds of years old vintage objects from the colonial period is also an attraction that can attract tourists to come.

This Digital Mapping project is part of the UB Faculty of Engineering’s efforts to support the preservation and promotion of historical values and the architectural beauty of historic buildings in Malang City. Digital mapping is the right choice to describe the details and uniqueness of each historical building in the Kampoeng Heritage Kayoetangan area.

“This activity aims to develop the Kampoeng Heritage Kayoetangan Virtual Tour application. With this application, determining and digital mapping historical buildings is crucial in increasing tourism attractiveness,” explained Herry, a team leader.

He added that to support the development of heritage tourism in Kampoeng Heritage Kayutangan, it is necessary to identify and digital map historical buildings, which are the focus of this community service program. The digital documentation technique uses a 360 camera, which is integrated into developing the Virtual Tour Application at several vital spots in Kampoeng Heritage Kayutangan.

Later, the database in the application will be helpful for preservation and conservation efforts, which will also be part of the city government’s program in developing Kampoeng Heritage Kayutangan into a better heritage tourist attraction as well as developing a visual-spatial information system for Kampoeng Heritage Kayoetangan.

Innovation in digital mapping by the PKM FT UB Lecturer Team marks a positive step in supporting the preservation and promotion of historical values in Malang City. It is hoped that this project can inspire other parties to contribute to preservation efforts and increase appreciation of local cultural heritage.[drn]
