Again, UB Inaugurates Two Professors in the Faculty of Engineering

Universitas Brawijaya (UB) has once again confirmed 4 Professors/Professors. Two of them come from the Faculty of Engineering (FT UB). The inauguration was held on Tuesday (12/12/2023) at the Samantha Krida Building, UB. The two professors are Prof. Gunawan Prayitno, S.P., M.T., Ph.D from the Department of Regional and City Planning (PWK) and Prof. Sugiono S.T., M.T., Ph.D. from the Department of Industrial Engineering (IT).

Prof. Gunawan Prayitno, S.P., M.T., Ph.D. listed as the 26th active Professor at the Faculty of Engineering (FT) and the 201st active Professor at Brawijaya University and the 360th Professor of all Professors produced by Brawijaya University.

He, who is a Professor in the Field of Regional Planning and Sustainable Villages, delivered his Scientific Oration entitled “Social Capital-Integration (SCI) as a Basis for Quality Village Construction”

According to him, SCI is considered a base for quality village construction. This is emerging as a key element to accelerate digital transformation in rural areas. Social capital integration (SCI) as a basis for quality village construction includes several elements. Some of these include social relationships, trust, shared norms, and collaboration in the village context.

“When digital technology in this era has entered our villages rapidly, it is important to recognize and understand the role played by social capital in shaping village sustainability,” he explained.

Meanwhile, Prof. Sugiono, S.T., M.T., Ph.D. is the 27th active Professor at the Faculty of Engineering (FT) and the 203rd active Professor at Brawijaya University and the 362nd Professor of all Professors produced by Brawijaya University.

He is a professor in the field of Transportation Ergonomics at Faculty of Engineering, who discovered a new approach based on an integrative system in safe road maps thatcan arouse the alertness and concentration of drivers who will cross railway crossings.

In his scientific oration, he touched on the problem of level train crossings in Indonesia where there are no officers or gate barriers at 2,259 locations. Apart from that, based on accident data in 2022, the number of accidents at level railroad crossings is 289 incidents or 6.02 accidents per week.

As many as 87 percent of accidents or around 251 accidents occurred at crossings without officers. He did not deny that there had been many findings discussing efforts to prevent accidents at railway level crossings. However, this Professor in Transportation Ergonomics, FT UB, found a new approach based on an integrative system in a safe road map. This approach can arouse the alertness and concentration of drivers who will cross train crossings.

The road map is called double awareness driving (DAD) which works in the form of a visual and audio map. This DAD map will later be integrated with the driver information system and devices at crossings without officers.[drn]
