Salimar #1, Optimizing Student Preparation for the Professional Work

The Alumni Association (IKA) of the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Brawijaya (FT UB) synergized with the FTUB Student Affairs section in holding an online Alumni Teaching Session (Salimar) on Saturday, February 24, 2024.

Vice Dean for Student Affairs, Alumni and Student Entrepreneurship Dr.Eng. Ir. Herry Santosa, S.T., M.T., IPM., in his speech explained that this activity aims to provide insight into the world of work and industry to members of the Faculty of Engineering who want to develop their knowledge.

Salimar will be held in several sessions by presenting various expert presenters from strategic companies in Indonesia who are UB alumni. The hope is that this can be utilized optimally by students.

“This activity will be held every weekend for eight meetings starting today (24/02) until next May,” explained Dr Herry.

He also emphasized the importance of this kind of activity as a forum to bring together academicians and practitioners. This Architecture lecturer also expressed his support for the initiative of alumni in IKA FT UB.

“Hopefully this activity can open up new opportunities that are beneficial for the alma mater, students, and alumni,” he hoped closing his remarks.

On the same occasion, the Chair of IKA FT UB, Ir. Iwan Suprijanto, ST., MT., FIDSK, explained that Salimar is part of the IKA FT UB program which aims to advance the alma mater through the contribution of alumni who have been successful in the world of work.

“It is hoped that alumni will increasingly return to campus, sharing knowledge and practical experience with students to complement the theoretical knowledge gained at college,” explained Iwan, the Director General of Housing at the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing of the Republic of Indonesia.

Iwan initiated and invited alumni who have been successful in their careers or held strategic positions in their workplaces to share their experiences with UB students.

This 1990 Architecture alumnus hopes that this activity can increase students’ readiness to face the world of work and provide the importance of field experience in complementing theoretical knowledge. (mic)
