Chemical Engineering UB Wins Gold Medal in Lombok Essay Competition 3

On March 9-10, 2024, a remarkable success was achieved by a group of students from various departments at Gunung Rinjani University. In the prestigious event of Lombok Essay Competition 3, they proudly secured the Gold Medal. This competition was a collaboration between Gunung Rinjani University and the Room for Science and Scientific Works Innovation (RISKI) held on Lombok Island.

The winning team comprised Putri Cahya S.M. from Chemical Engineering’22, Yehezkiel Reynard Wibowo from Electrical Engineering’22, Syafiq Sanjaya from Mechanical Engineering’22, Razzaqi Hatmawira R. R. from the Department of Animal Husbandry’22, and Dodik Kristiawan from the Department of Animal Husbandry’22. They were guided by two supervising professors, Dr. Mar’atul Fauziyah, S.T. from the Chemical Engineering Department, and Ir. Redi Bintarto, ST., M.Eng.Pract. from the Mechanical Engineering Department.

Armed with thorough preparation and exceptional presentation skills, this team convincingly impressed the jury, thus attaining the highest achievement in the competition, the Gold Medal.

One of the innovations they presented was PETRI GUN, an advanced electrical insemination gun development. This innovation aims to significantly improve the success rate of impregnating ruminant livestock using fresh semen. PETRI GUN boasts several significant enhancements, including the use of lighter materials, more stable semen container insulators, and a medical endoscopic camera to assist inseminators in determining the precise deposition location of semen. Additionally, a more user-friendly design is also one of the advantages of this innovation.

Putri and her team hope that with the further refinement of PETRI GUN, it can make a significant contribution to the management of ruminant livestock reproduction in Indonesia. Undoubtedly, this will have a positive impact on the availability of animal protein commodities such as meat and milk, which are essential needs for the community. Their success not only represents a personal achievement but also a tangible step towards supporting the advancement of Indonesia’s agricultural sector.
