Electrical Engineering Department Gets One New Professor

Prof. Dr. Ir. Sholeh Hadi Pramono, M.S. officially confirmed as a professor in the Field of Opto-electrotechnical Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Brawijaya (FT UB). The inauguration event was held offline at the Samantha Krida Building on Sunday (17/3/2024). He was inaugurated as the 28th active professor at the Faculty of Engineering (FT) and the 221st active Professor at UB and became the 385th Professor of all Professors produced by Universitas Brawijaya.

Prof. Sholeh was confirmed as a professor in the field of opto-electrotechnical engineering in. The inauguration speech was entitled “Opto-electrotechnical engineering to support the implementation of information and communication technology”. Opto-electrotechnics is a field of science that focuses on the development and application of optoelectronic devices. Optoelectronics itself is defined as technology that facilitates the generation, detection and control of light or optics.

He also emphasized the use of optical sensors in supporting renewable communication systems such as Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) and smart grids. Apart from that, alternative renewable energy sources such as Dye Sensitized Solar Cells (DSSC) have also been raised as potential solutions to support electronic devices in information and communication technology.

“The role of opto-electrotechnical engineering is important, because communication in the form of optical signals which is an opto-electrotechnical engineering product is able to offer better bandwidth and reliability compared to communication in the form of electrical signals, apart from supporting communication systems, opto-electrotechnical engineering products such as sensors optics also supports the development of information and communication technology services such as Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) and smart grids,” said Prof. Sholeh.

It is hoped that in the future there will be further scientific development to increase the level of reliability of more sophisticated opto-electrotechnical products, as well as encourage innovation in the field of information and communication technology.

The inauguration event was attended by various parties, including the Board of Trustees, University Academic Senate, Chancellor, University Leadership, Faculty Leaders, Professor Council, Members of the University Academic Senate, Members of the Professor Council, and Prof.’s family.
