Chemical Engineering Holds a Series of Guest Lectures by Industry Practitioners

Teknik Kimia Gelar Rangkaian Kuliah Tamu Praktisi IndustriIn the Even Semester of 2024, the Department of Chemical Engineering organized a series of guest lectures featuring industry practitioners. This initiative aimed to foster collaboration between faculty members and industry professionals while providing students with real-world experiences from experts in their respective fields. The program is expected to enhance students’ understanding of the practical application of theoretical knowledge in the workplace.

The first series of guest lectures was conducted online via Zoom Meetings on March 28, April 20, and May 4, 2024. The invited speaker for this event was Mr. Ir. Robby Sukma Dharmawan, S.T., M.A.B., IPM., ASEAN Eng., a Senior Process Engineer at PT. Badak LNG. The theme discussed in this lecture series was “Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S) Treatment in the LNG Industry.”

During these guest lectures, Mr. Robby Sukma Dharmawan delivered various materials related to the LNG industry, including an introduction to the industry, the Acid Gas Removal Unit (AGRU) system, and H2S treatment and recovery technologies. The materials were presented interactively, with the speaker frequently posing questions for students to discuss. This approach successfully engaged students and made them more active participants in the lectures.

The students in attendance showed great enthusiasm in providing answers and opinions on the questions posed. Their engagement demonstrated a high level of interest in the topics discussed and a desire to gain a deeper understanding of H2S treatment technologies in the LNG industry. This enthusiasm was also evident from the numerous questions students directed at the speaker.

Additionally, Mr. Robby Sukma Dharmawan shared various real-life case studies from PT. Badak LNG. These case studies provided a clearer and more concrete illustration for students regarding the application of H2S treatment technologies in the LNG industry. As a result, students could better understand and apply the theories they had learned in class.

Through this guest lecture series, it is hoped that students of the Department of Chemical Engineering will gain new insights and knowledge beneficial for their preparation to enter the workforce. Activities like these are crucial in bridging the gap between academia and industry, thereby enhancing the quality of education and preparing students to face the challenges of the professional world.
