Guest Lecture on “Conservation of River Estuaries and Coastal Areas”

Kuliah Tamu “Konservasi Muara Sungai dan Pesisir Pantai”On Monday, May 27, 2024, the Department of Water Resources Engineering (WRE), Faculty of Engineering Universitas Brawijaya (FT UB) held a guest lecture themed Conservation of River Estuaries and Coastal Areas.

This guest lecture featured Hamzah Haru Radityo Suharyanto, S.T., M.Sc. from the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN).

Prof. Dr. Ir. Ussy Andawayanti, MS., IPM., who was also present that morning, explained that the purpose of this guest lecture was to share knowledge and experiences from the speaker regarding the conservation of river estuaries and coastal areas.

“It is hoped that students and lecturers can gain valuable additional knowledge to help them face global competition,” she explained.

The participants of this guest lecture were students taking the Coastal Engineering course and several postgraduate students in Water Resources Engineering.

The presence of the speaker was expected to enhance students’ understanding of ports in Indonesia from various aspects, including technical, managerial, social, and environmental perspectives.

Through the presentation by Hamzah Haru Radityo Suharyanto, students were expected to gain deeper insights into the appropriate conservation techniques for river estuaries and coastal areas.

This is crucial given the strategic role of coastal and estuarine areas in economic and ecological life.

The interactions and discussions during the guest lecture were expected to provide new insights for students and lecturers regarding the challenges and solutions in conserving river estuaries and coastal areas.

This knowledge will be very useful for students as future professionals in the field of water resources engineering.

Through this event, the Department of Water Resources Engineering hopes to improve the quality of education and research, and produce graduates who are ready to contribute to environmental conservation and sustainable development in Indonesia.
