The 1st BROMINE: Chemical Engineering as the Main Pillar of Sustainable Development

BROMINEThe Department of Chemical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Brawijaya (FTUB), is hosting its inaugural international conference on July 19-20, 2024, at Widyaloka Building, UB. The event, titled “The 1st Brawijaya International Conference on Chemical Engineering (BROMINE) 2024” is being held in a hybrid format.

The conference is themed “Synergies in Chemical Engineering: Integrating Science, Innovation, Technology, and Global Impact in Supporting Sustainable Development Goals,” reflecting the complex and interconnected issues we face today.

Dr. Mar`atul Fauziyah, S.T., the Chairperson of the Organizing Committee, reported that the event is attended by hundreds of participants from various countries, both in person at the Widyaloka Building and via Zoom.

With hundreds of agents of change gathered at this conference, let us collectively realize an efficient and environmentally responsible industry,” she remarked.

Echoing the Chairperson, Ir. Moh. Sholichin, M.T., Ph.D., IPU., ASEAN Eng., Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering, stated that this conference serves as a bridge for the exchange of knowledge, ideas, and experiences among academics, researchers, and practitioners who share a common interest in the field of chemical engineering.

“This is a platform where collaboration and innovation thrive, and where solutions to our most pressing challenges begin to take shape,” he said.

bromine - sambutan pembukaan dekanIn his opening speech, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Ir. Hadi Suyono, S.T., M.T., Ph.D., IPU., ASEAN Eng. expressed his appreciation to all participants who have become a part of BROMINE 2024.

“Your presence and contributions are instrumental to the success of this conference, and I look forward to witnessing the inspiring discussions and collaborations that will undoubtedly emerge. Let us commence this conference with enthusiasm and dedication, for it is through our collective efforts that we will create a better and more environmentally friendly future,” said the Professor in the Field of Power System Engineering & Artificial Intelligence.

This conference features three keynote speakers and five plenary speakers with outstanding expertise and perspectives. On the first day, moderated by Wa Ode Cakra Nirwana, S.T., M.T., Ph.D., the event presented three keynote speakers.

Present at Widyaloka were Muhamad Arifin (President Director of Pertamina EP Cepu Regional 4 East Indonesia) and Radya Purna Wijaya (Senior Vice President of PT. Petrokimia Gresik), while Idral Amri, S.T., M.T., Ph.D. (Chair of APTEKIM – Association of Indonesian Chemical Engineering Higher Education Institutions) joined virtually via Zoom.

The plenary speaker sessions on the first day included Prof. Heru Setyawan (Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology, Indonesia), moderated by Dr. Eng. Ir. Christina Wahyu Kartikowati, S.T., M.T., and Prof. Harald Horn (Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Germany), moderated by Dr. Safrina Hapsari, S.T., M.T.

On the second day, moderated by Rama Oktavian, S.T., M.T., Ph.D., the plenary speaker sessions featured Prof. Jaka Sunarso (Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak), Dr. Peyman Z Moghadam (Associate Professor at University College London), and Diah Agustina Puspitasari, Ph.D. (Assistant Professor at Universitas Brawijaya).

Through this conference, it is hoped that participants will foster cooperation and share innovations to address the global challenges we face. Chemical engineering, with all its potential, is ready to be the agent of change that will lead the world toward a better and more sustainable future.
